HPES Admissions

Local school districts will refer students to High Point Elementary School under N.J.A.C. 6A:14 Special Education. High Point Elementary School is approved to provide behaviorally and multiply disabled classroom programs for students who are eligible for special education services.

Our application procedure includes:

  • A review of current classification reports (Educational, Psychological, Social Work, Speech and Language, Psychiatric) and discussions with the Child Study Team regarding the presenting problem and current educational status
  • An interview with the student, his or her parents, the Child Study Team and High Point's Educational, Clinical and Speech screening team
  • A student visit to the school and the proposed classroom
  • Students are accepted for a 30-day trial period to evaluate the appropriateness of the placement.

A student will be able to participate in the High Point Elementary School program if the High Point Elementary School, the Child Study Team and the parents/guardians mutually agree upon the placement. Tuition and transportation costs are the responsibility of the local school district. High Point staff communicate regularly with the Child Study Team throughout the student's placement in the program.
